Smash Into Pieces Latest (Armaheaven) is Simply Smashing
Armaheaven by Smash Into Pieces dropped this week, and it’s simply smashing. The "Maze of Fools" single put the Swedish group on our radar, and we have been waiting a full year for the album’s release.
Over the past year, the band released a slew of singles. The only ones that didn't make the final cut were their covers of "Heroes" by Måns Zelmerlöw and Linkin Park’s “In the End.” Not including “Heroes” feels like a miss—not just because it’s excellent, but because thematically, it would’ve fit right in.
The second track, “Villain,” arrived with a music video alongside the album launch. Given the popularity of tracks like “Heroes” and “Heroes Are Calling,” the title stood out as a striking juxtaposition. After a few listens, “Villain” reminded me of another recent favorite: “Ready Fuels” by Anberlin. While the bands styles are different - these songs have similar emotional intensity and themes.
“NeoFuture” felt like an odd choice for an opener at first—falling into the recent trend of bands starting albums with what feels like a throwaway prelude. But by the time the album closes with “Some Kind of Heaven,” a track rich in societal commentary, and then transitions into the postlude “Prophecy” (which borrows heavily from “NeoFuture”), the opener gains new relevance. The album comes full circle, and the sequencing feels intentional and satisfying.
“Wildfire” is probably our favorite track—it’s got infectious energy, the kind of song that leads to dancing and singing around the kitchen while making pancakes on a crisp fall morning. If you’re already a Smash Into Pieces fan, it’s likely due in part to the distinct sound of Chris Adam Hedman Sörbye’s voice. “A Sky Full of Stars” showcases his impressive vocal range beautifully. And maybe that’s the story of the album: it spans from hard-hitting rock like “Hurricane” to soulful slow jams like “A Sky Full of Stars.”
In short, Armaheaven delivers exactly what we were hoping for—it’s an excellent listen. Hope you enjoy it too. As a side note, we’re still trying to figure out if all the band’s music videos connect in a particular sequence—they’re definitely worth watching, and APOC always looks so damn cool.
